unFold 1000 Tweets Contest

31 March 2013 Contest Entry Deadline Fast Approaching

One example of our theme. What does “milestone” mean to you?

unFold, our poetry Twitter-zine, is about to post its 1000th tweet. To choose this tweet, we’re holding a poetry contest. The theme is “milestones.” Throughout the month of March, send in your tweet-sized poems that relate to the “milestones” theme. Our poetry editor, Rose Auslander, will select ten shortlist poems which will then be posted on the unFold blog mid-April. The winner will be selected by Matthew Lippman, author of The New Year of Yellow (winner of the Kathryn A. Morton Poetry Prize), American Chew (winner of the 2012 Burnside Review Book Prize), Monkey Bars, and a recipient of the 2010 Jerome J. Shestack Prize (by American Poetry Review). On 30 April 2013, the winning poem will be posted on the unFold Twitter stream, with illustrated versions made into a video on YouTube and printed on promotional postcards. The winning poet will receive 25 copies of the promotional postcard.

There is NO ENTRY FEE. To submit:

  1. Read at least ten of our published poems at unfoldmag.wordpress.com or twitter.com/unFold_mag to familiarize yourself with our editorial preferences.
  2. In the body of an email, send up to three “milestones” poems to poetry@foldedword.com with “1000 tweets” in the subject line.
  3. Be sure to use your word processor’s word count tool to check your character count. We cannot accept poems over 140 characters (including spaces/line breaks – each line break takes three spaces).
  4. In your email, be sure to include:
  • your name & pen name
  • a link to your bio
  • your Twitter handle, if applicable
  • the title of an unFold poem or name of an unFold poet that you enjoy

Whether or not you enter the contest, we hope you’ll pop by the unFold Twitter stream at the end of April to see our 1000th tweet in all its multi-media glory.
