Picking the Red Gooseberry

Gently part the branches,
and—coming from below—
look for the burgundy globe,
the one engorged with sweet juices.

Do not deceive yourself,
such pickings are not easy,
not matter what you do,
you will get hooked.

    I like the double meaning implicit in “you will get hooked” — brings to mind the brambles as well as the berries.
